After studying social sciences at Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg, I received my PhD in sociology at Free University Berlin in 1999; supervisors were Prof. Dietmar Kamper and Prof.
Hartmut Böhme. In 2006 I passed my Habilitation thesis at Humboldt University Berlin with supervisors Prof. Hartmut Böhme and Prof. Wolfgang Eßbach
and received the venia legendi in Kulturwissenschaften (Cultural Studies) and Kultursoziologie (Cultural Sociology).
Since 2011 I am working as professor of cultural sociology with Justus Liebig University Giessen. Since 2018 I also
am Extraordinary Professor in Social Anthropology, North-West University, South Africa.
